The installer downloads the latest edminc release for your platform from GitHub, checks it against the release's SHASUMS256.txt, unpacks it into ~/.edminc and adds that directory to your PATH. The command is edmc, and edmc_update runs this script again to update in place. It runs without administrator rights. EDMINC_INSTALL picks another directory, EDMINC_VERSION pins a release, and EDMINC_NO_PATH=1 leaves your PATH unchanged.
